About the role
Provide vital help to all creatures great and small by caring for and attending to all animals in the care of RSPCA Qld Rockhampton Shelter by performing a wide range of duties using best practice in animal husbandry.
- To support the Animal Care Manager and the Inspectors based in Rockhampton and the animals in our care, including providing appropriate animal husbandry, enrichment and basic medical care at the Rockhampton holding facility and offer administrative support to the Inspectorate Team
- To assist the Inspectors by managing a support structure that provide sufficient animal space, appropriate offsite care of animals and assistance in field and at vet appointments.
- Assist ACC to manage foster and offsite adoption program.
- Adhere to Rockhampton agreed "capacity to care" and ensure all animals are moved through in a timely manner. (foster, adoptions, transfer)
- Work alongside the Rockhampton team in a collaborative and respectful manner and assist with the smooth flow and function of both the foster/adoption program and the inspectorate
Your Key Responsibilities
- Perform Animal husbandry, Enrichment, Exercise and medicating animals in RSPCA care
- Proved observation of dogs and cat in areas of dog sociability (dog-dog interactions)
- Implementing low stress handing across the RSCPA animals and their living and travel environments
- Driving animals to vet appointments, place of holding etc.
- Implement enrichment for all animals in care.
- Communicating with behaviour and medical teams/ 1_medical, 1_behaviour on animals in care
- Maintaining clear communication and information sharing on animals in care.
- Administering vaccinations and other preventative treatments to animals as required
- General administrative duties such as collect evidence for animals under protective custody, including photographs, recording animal information, and maintaining records, scanning and uploading information to the database
- Assist in the foster/adoption program as required
- Completing administrative tasks associated with the completion of adoption/intake paperwork
- Where required supporting the inspectorate with accurate data entry for evidence pertaining to animal care records. This may include collecting, scanning and uploading evidence for animals under protective custody, including photographs and animal specific data as required.
- Assist Inspector in field as required.
Our Animal Attendants primarily work with our domestic animals, including dogs, cats, livestock, and small pets.
Who are we looking for?
- Certificate II or III in animal-related studies would be an advantage.
- Experience in animal husbandry and animal handling; verbally and visually identifying and describing animals body language.
- A passion for animal welfare and a commitment to achieving the long-term goals of the RSPCA Qld.
- Excellent organisational skills, time management and the ability to cope in high pressure situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including good conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent office/computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, ability to quickly learn to use RSPCA databases).
- Minimum age 18 years old.
